Biography
My name is Ms. Debra Berry and I would like to welcome your child to 7th grade here at CMS! I am originally from Corsicana, TX where I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Interdisciplinary Studies specializing in Science, grades 4-8. In addition, I now have my Masters in Education specializing in curriculum and instruction. Previously, I taught science to 5th through 8th grade students – preparing them to succeed in state accountability testing. In addition, I directed One-Act Play for two years at both the high school and junior high levels. This is my 14th year to teach middle school science. I'm looking forward to getting to know both you and your child because it's the first time your child will experience 7th grade science....and THAT makes it exciting for me! Your 7th grade student will achieve much this year in terms of academic growth, greater self-confidence, and improved social skills. Good communication between parent, teacher, and student is very important for your child’s academic growth. Developing a love of science is so important to a child’s academic future, and I view scientific exploration for pleasure as a priority.
I am available to meet with parents most days, during 1st period, between 8:00 and 8:48 AM, while students are in electives (send a note with your child, email or call so that I can expect you). Unfortunately, I am not able to meet with parents before school starts in the morning, as student tutorials are at that time. For parents who use e-mail, I check my e-mail daily, and this is often the quickest, and most efficient way to get in touch with me, or to discuss any of your concerns. I will respond promptly.
